You'll have to design your way to find out.

Join ASID Colorado/New Mexico and MSI Denver for the 2nd Annual Black Box Design Competition, where individuals and teams will transform mystery materials into inspired spaces in a fun and spooky design challenge.

Network with fellow designers, enjoy refreshments, and compete for bragging rights and prizes.

Please note: Registration for the event does not include a competition box. If you'd like to participate in the Black Box Design Competition, you'll need to sign up for a box separately. Competition boxes will be available for pickup beginning October 5 at MSI Surfaces.

Completed entries must be returned to MSI Surfaces by October 28 to allow time for display setup before the event. During the event, attendees will vote for their favorite submission in a People's Choice competition, where one design will earn top honors.

What can I make? 

The short answer? Almost anything!

Your Black Box is your creative playground. We encourage you to think outside the box—literally.

Your finished piece can be functional, artistic, conceptual, or sculptural. Examples include:

• A tabletop vignette or room scene
• A sculptural or abstract art piece
• A product prototype
• A wall installation or decorative object
• A holiday or seasonal display
• A wearable art or fashion-inspired piece
• An architectural model
• A mixed-media installation
• Something completely unexpected!

You're welcome to incorporate additional materials to support your vision, but every material included in your Black Box must be incorporated in some way, shape or form into your final design.

There is no required theme, and entries will be judged by People's Choice, so focus on originality, craftsmanship, and telling a compelling story through your design. Most importantly—have fun, experiment, and surprise us!
